Indonesia At A Glance: Media Quality And AI In The Age Of Generative Content

Media quality is improving, but fraud is the exception

  • Indonesia’s Authentic Viewable Rate reached 82% (+4% YoY), ahead of both the Asia Pacific average (64%) and the global benchmark (73%).
  • Brand suitability violations fell to 5.7% (-9% YoY), continuing the region’s positive trajectory.
  • Fraud/SIVT moved the other way, rising to 0.4% (+24% YoY), even as Southeast Asia overall saw fraud decline 36%.

Takeaway: Quality gains alone aren’t enough. As environments mature, fraud simply flocks toward whatever environment remains unprotected, so vigilance needs to scale alongside investment.

Consumers have embraced AI, but relevance is non-negotiable

  • 76% of Indonesian consumers use AI tools several times a day or week, most commonly for research (61%), work (46%) and virtual assistants (46%).
  • 70% say rising AI-generated content has improved their online experience, and 67% feel positive about ads appearing within AI platforms and chat experiences.
  • However, this is highly dependent on relevance: 57% react positively to ads highly relevant to their chat context, versus only 24% positive (and 31% negative) when ads feel irrelevant.
  • 56% say they can spot AI-generated content always or most of the time.

Indonesian consumers aren’t resisting AI-native advertising; they’re simply holding it to a higher bar of contextual fit than traditional formats.

Marketers are more cautious than the audiences they’re targeting

  • 71% of Indonesian marketers are somewhat or very concerned about ads appearing next to low-quality generative AI content, and 44% feel the same about advertising within AI platforms directly.
  • A clear trust gap shows up in brand suitability standards. Marketers rate arts/entertainment (82%) and family/lifestyle (84%) content as suitable at higher rates than consumers do (65% and 68% respectively), yet are far stricter on misinformation: only 24% of marketers see fake or unreliable content as suitable for ads, versus 30% of consumers.
  • What would unlock more confident investment isn’t more reach or lower cost; it’s control. 51% of marketers want the ability to review or approve AI-generated creative before it goes live, 47% want verified brand safety and suitability controls, and 40% want clear data-privacy safeguards.

As AI-driven formats scale in Indonesia, governance and trust infrastructure look set to become the real differentiator, not budget or audience appetite.
