Where Does Your Organization Stand? The 5 Levels of Data Maturity

MMA Global just launched the Data Maturity Assessment—a quick, 20-question tool built specifically for marketing leaders who want to know exactly where their organization stands with data.

Take 20 minutes, answer honestly, and you’ll see exactly how you stack up against your industry and the companies leading the pack.

The Five Levels Explained:

Strugglers (12%) These organizations have basic or underdeveloped data capabilities across the board. If this is you, don’t panic—at least you know where to start.

Governance Driven (22%) Strong on data protection and compliance—these companies excel at governance frameworks, security, and transparency. The catch? They’re not yet leveraging data to actually grow the business.

Technology Enthusiasts (14%) Tons of first-party data and shiny marketing tech, but here’s the problem: they’re overspending on platforms while underfunding governance, talent, and processes. They’re great at collecting and using data in various ways, but immature everywhere else. The focus on first-party data shows they get its strategic value, at least.

Data Practitioners (39%) The largest group—these teams consistently use data insights and focus on building solid governance, processes, and people capabilities. They’re actively working to close their gaps and show strong maturity in data management, compliance, security, transparency, and skill development.

Data Champions (13%) The elite. These industry leaders demonstrate advanced maturity across nearly every dimension. They have crystal-clear strategic vision with tight alignment between their data initiatives and business objectives.
